banksia house

cabarita, northern nsw   -   28.3436° S, 153.5732° E

drawing inspiration from the remarkable

banksia integrifolia native to the site - the design responds to the harsh challenges associated with living against the australian coastline.

large eaves and customised timber doors and windows have been designed to address the sun - providing warmth in winter and shade in summer. materials have been selected to manage the highly corrosive nature of the incessant sea spray resulting in a low maintenance home.

the building planing and envelope has taken into consideration the existing native trees on site - to ensure immediate shade and privacy from the first day of occupancy.
